Last Monday at the Red Lion, SGA had its monthly circle. Kirsten Thien, just back from a European tour and headed for Chicago to play at the legendary Buddy Guy's club, was our MC for the night (Skip Brevis was off to MC a celebrity show.)
Galia Arad, who is now living in Dublin, Ireland to accommodate her work in Europe, was there. She is very popular with the Pogues. Shane MacGowan wrote the liner notes for her CD. She is opening with her band for Jules Holland and playing in large arenas.
Also on stage was Jake Holmes, who has written many albums and is now working on a Broadway show. Plus Regi Ransdell, who is now singing back up for a lot of artists. It was fun seeing everyone sing backup for him.
In the band, Eric Boyd, who gave up a gig with Popa Chubby to tour with Kirsten Thein, was playing bass and Bruce Gordon was on guitar. They were joined by Steve Adabbo, a celebrity musician, song writer (he co-wrote "Luka"), producer (produced and managed Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin and many more at his celebrated studio, Shelter Island).
The sound engineer didn't show up, so my assistant/student Shayna, did the sound for the evening. One tutorial from Steve Addabo and she was off running!
